This is an authentic Lapland adventure in the beauty of the Arctic wilderness with native Sámi reindeer
herders. You are welcome to participate in the daily life of the Sámi reindeer husbandry, hunt the Northern Lights, have fun with the reindeer sledding and spend the evenings in the traditional tent where you can learn
more about the Sámi reindeer herders life.
Sunrise in the Arctic
Our guests will arrive at the Alta or Ivalo (Fin) airports and be welcomed by our guides with a small welcome ceremony. You will be served
a Traditional Sámi lunch before the journey begins.
The tour starts by car, travelling into the heart of Finnmark, to the village of Šuoššjávri.
This small village is located between Kautokeino and Karasjok at the highway 92. The ride takes about 2 hours.
In Šuossjávri we will change
from car to snowmobile transport, which takes us all the way to the winter camp in ŠUORBMU.
We will change into warm snowmobile clothes before the
adventurous ride into the tundra. The snowmobiling lasts for about one hour to our camp.
Northernlight - The Aurora borealis
We don't have a daily itinerary for the guest because after all, everything happens by nature's speed as this is a real-life experience and unpredictable things can happen in reindeer herding. But a typical day may look like this:
8 am Wake up & breakfast
10 am Visit the reindeer stock by snowmobiles
2 pm lunch
4 pm Daily tasks such as cutting the firewood, fetching water, food preparations
6 pm Dinner & yoik singing at
the goahti tent
10 pm Observe the sky & hunt the Northern Lights
Every guest is warmly welcome to participate in the
daily tasks. In the cabin, there are traditional wooden Sámi skiis that guests can use freely while exploring the surroundings. This is a slowdown experience
We welcome visitors from December to March in winter. All homestays start
on Thursday and end on Sunday. December and January are months when it' s the magical polar night which means winter darkness when the sun never rises. Starting from February the days get more light and milder temperatures.
Accommodation is in
a very basic wilderness cabin. There is no shower and the toilet is outdoors in a separate building which is not heated. The cabin is heated with firewood. There are 3 bedrooms, all with two separate beds. Travelers can also spend a night outdoors
in a traditional Sámi tent if they like.
Traditional Sámi handicraft
The location is in the middle of Tundra but the nearest town is
Kautokeino. A free pick-up and return service by the Sámi host is available from Alta and Ivalo airports. Other airports (Tromsø, Hammerfest) for an additional fee.
Here you can go offline. We are happy
to announce this atotally off-grid experience. In case of emergencies, there is a satellite phone. Here you can focus on being in the moment!
